August 13, 2008 |

Annie LennoxAccording to a report in Billboard, the former Tourist, former Eurythmic, now solo artist Annie Lennox covers the song “Shining Light” by Ulster alt-rockers Ash on her forthcoming 14-track retrospective album “The Annie Lennox Collection“, her last album for Sony BMG. Lennox has also contributed a rework of Keane’s “Closer Now”. The 54-year-old iconic Aberdonian said “I heard [”Shining Light”] about six years ago and I couldn’t stop playing it. I’ve done a more upbeat version of their song. I just think it’s so inspirational and it’s somewhat exuberant and ecstatic and it has this dimension to it that works on all sorts of different levels.” Ash’s “Shining  Light” won the 2001 Ivor Novello award for Best Contemporary Song and the Irish Music Best Single Award in 2002. An Ash spokesperson was not available for comment. More: http://www.annielennox.com
