Peter Moore

Belfast-born trombonist Peter Moore (pictured) has been named BBC Young Musician of the Year 2008 at the final in Cardiff, organised by BBC Wales. At 12 years old, he’s the youngest ever winner of the competition, taking the title against stiff competition from talented young musicians from around the UK. Moore was a pupil at Orangefield Primary School, East Belfast [Van Morrison also - ed] but now lives in England and attends Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester. His parents were both French horn players in the Ulster Orchestra, and his brother is studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and also entered the competition. Moore’s mother and music teacher said, “He works really hard - and what is most important - enjoys what he does.” Among the runners-up, a £1.5k bursary was shared three-ways between pianist Sam Law (17) from Ballymena, Co. Antrim and two other young musicians from Great Britain.
