Viral marketing for bands: Swarmteams

UK bands and musicians are invited to test-drive a new on-line marketing tool which draws on theories about the social behaviour of insect colonies [bees - ed] and internet/mobile viral marketing techniques [via SMS, e-mail, IM, Skype - ed] to help accelerate the expansion of fan-bases and target consumers. Developed and deployed by a Northern Ireland company, the so-called Swarmteams® concept is described as “the new way to transform fanbases into pro-active fan communities and increase sales of tickets, music and merchandise.” Thanks to the support of social enterprise investor NESTA - and other music industry sponsors - a select group of music promoters can harness the Swarmteams® method for up to 1 year starting January 2008.
