Keys opens minds eye

Blistered EyesRena Maguire clocks Blistered Eyes, a new solo album by Chris Keys: 25-year-old Chris Keys does that special fusion of Celtic-Americana. And I’ve been rather taken with his new self-produced album, Blistered Eyes, especially the song “Road Trip” with its sublime cruising to the beach in my open-top automobile feel. No surprise then that Keys lists his hobbies as out-doorsy things like kayaking and surfing. With Blistered Eyes, Keys has produced a great wee album for a) showcasing high-quality acoustic AOR in this country, and b) for blowing winter’s cobwebs off your mind and making you want to get out there and do something better than watch Ashes to Ashes [BBC’s time-slip cop caper - ed]. (Ah, the glories awaiting those who learn how to drive Audacity digital audio freeware!). This is very much Portrush-interpreted surf music, and its as clean as a day spent in the fresh air with a scrumptious slap-up feed afterwards to look forward to. If you’re a housebound couch potato with a leg entombed in plaster-of-Paris [like this unfortunate reviewer - ed] Keys’ CD makes you remember there’s actually a world out there… More www.myspace.com/chrisjkeys
