John McGurgan: Gipsy Street
February 4, 2008 |
Omagh artist John McGurgan has self-produced a limited-edition CD entitled Gipsy Street. Recorded at Alan Cooke’s Donegal studio, McGurgan’s semaphore vocals-guitar-bass-only album features new and original compositions, plus an arrangement of the Hank Williams classic “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry“. Double bass is played by McGurgan’s brother Joseph. Only 300 copies of Gipsy Street are to be made. Explaining his philosophy, McGurgan said, “The sleeve - made of paper and card - has been put together by hand, each signed and numbered. I think it’s important to be personal. Besides, I’m singing my own songs played on guitar I designed and built myself, why stop there.” The sleeve artwork is by Belfast designer and artist Kev Largey.
