Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2008The Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2008 will be held in the RDS Dublin on Friday, February 15, 2008 and broadcast Saturday on RTE 2. Comedian Dara O’Briain hosts and will be joined on-stage by various artists to celebrate the best in music, both home-grown and international. Ulster’s Duke Special and Ash are included among the nominees, and Irish supergroup The Saw Doctors will perform and be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Now in its 8th year, these awards introduce a new category - Best Regional DJ. Of the 19 awards up for grabs, the general public [i.e. you, dear reader - ed] are invited to vote in the following 8 categories:

* Best National DJ * Best Regional DJ * Best Irish Band
* Best Irish Male * Best Irish Female * Best Irish Pop Act
* Best Irish Album * Best Irish Live Performance

On-line voting is available on http://meteormusicawards.meteor.ie/index.aspx and voters will be auto-entered into a competition to win tickets to the awards show. The remaining awards - apart from the Most Downloaded Song - will be decided by representatives of the Irish music industry. Meteor spokesperson Meadhbh Quinn said, “These awards also represent up-and-coming talent making its mark on the Irish music industry.”
