Co. Down: The Grassroots Acoustic Club
August 27, 2007 |
One Achord, a new Northern Ireland based promoter of acoustic world music, announces that former Wailer, Natty Wailer, headlines the launch of a new music club - The Grassroots Acoustic Club - at Denvirs Hotel, Downpatrick, Co. Down on September 7 from 9-11pm. Tickets are £7 (reserve by e-mail). Natty - of BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS fame - is a Rastafarian who is taking his acoustic reggae music and its message to a wider audience. An evening of raw, acoustic world music featuring:
Paddy Anderson - Co. Down man Paddy studied guitar in the caves of Granada, one of the legendary cradles of flamenco and draws influence from French chanson. Paddy’s distinctive boogie-woogie blues piano and expressive vocals have afforded him a loyal following since he arrived back home to the shores of Strangford. Passion, rhythm, energy: are the most prominent elements within Paddy Anderson’s music.
Denise Marie - from New Orleans, Denise calls her own style “bayou blues, swampy jazz and funky folk” with a world music flavour in the mix. She’ll play any guitar she can get her hands on, acoustic, electric, dobro, tenor guitar, finger-picking the old time blues, strumming, slide guitar and open tunings. She also sings while playing the Middle Eastern riqq, a percussion instrument.
