Coke seeks school band wannabees
August 12, 2007 |
The Coca-Cola backed blast:beat programme is searching for eight schools in Northern Ireland to compete in a “music and multi-media skills initiative which could lead to a record deal“. The blast:beat programme - open to secondary school students aged 14 to 18 [sorry dad rockers - ed] - offers wannabe teens cash prizes and a possible music deal. Piloted in 2003-2004 in the Republic of Ireland after starting life in the USA, the programme involved teams of teenagers from 18 schools. Then in 2005-2006 a cross-border programme involved 18 teams from the south and 6 from the north. Ulster glam band Nice ‘N’ Sleezy [http://www.nicensleezy.co.uk/] won the first heat of last year’s blast:beat 2006 at Portora. The Ulster Final took place at The Nerve Centre in Co. Londonderry.
