£500k to help Scottish music grow
March 2, 2007 |
Half a million pounds of public money is to be used to help develop the music stars of the future in Scotland, it was announced yesterday. The cash, from Scottish Enterprise, will help to develop labels and promoters as well as the performers themselves.
The money for the Scottish Music Futures Fund is a signal that the music industry is taken seriously for its economic as well as cultural benefits, officials said.
“The key issue here is about promotion and marketing. Labels in Scotland don’t have the resources to develop individual bands and artists to an appropriate scale,” said Callum Davidson, of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
“It’s about giving individual labels appropriate resources to take forward individual artists.”
