In the run up to the sixth annual City of Derry Guitar Festival (August 23-26, 2008) there will be two free informal concerts sponsored by one of the festival’s main backers this year, the Derry Credit Union. In the first of these concerts on Wednesday, August 8. 1pm-2pm in the Verbal Arts Centre Café, by the city’s historic walls, local classical guitarist Sean Woods – described by Venezuelan virtuoso Gabriel Guillén as “…one of the most important guitarist in Ireland” – will play a selection of music ranging from Tarrega, Granados, Piazzola and Albeniz. The second concert by Belfast guitarist Brian Keenan takes place in Café Nervosa, the Nerve Centre, on Wednesday, August 15 from 1pm-2pm.
